Double Sensation Pizza Pre-Launch Party

The pre-launch party for the Double Sensation Pizza was held at their branch in Funan the IT Mall. Tucked away in a corner on the third storey, we were promptly ushered to our seats and presented with the menu for a drink order. Customer service that touches your heart.

A lychee green tea was a refreshing treat to my senses after a frazzled walk in the sudden downpour.

And there was certainly a lot of heart that went into the planning of this tasting session.

Fruitti Prawn Salad.
Summer love.
Refreshing salad with the vivid colors of fruits and crunchy prawns.
Tangy cream salad dressing on the side.
I was perfectly contented eating this.
Undressed.

Trio Chicken Platter.
I hardly think it's selfishness.
Let's call it honesty.
Good for one.
No sharing.

After getting some food to quieten down our growling stomachs,
we were introduced to Albert, the restaurant manager of the branch at Funan the IT Mall.
Us bloggers were brought through a step by step demonstration of the Double Sensation Pizza.
And what a treat it was!

I got to do a hands-on for the sauces and ingredients on the Double Sensation Pizza so believe me when i say that there were exact measurements and quantities for each of the ingredients on the pizza so you can be sure there's never a discrepancy between the amount of cheese you get on your pizza and the order on the table next to yours.
Unless it was a flurry of hands... on a hands-on competition :)

Chicken Spinach Cannelloni
For a creamy treat that's less heavy on carbo loading than the beef lasagne.

Chilli crab baked rice
If you were looking for a taste reminiscent of the chilli crab that's uniquely Singapore then you'd be much disappointed.
But if you were looking for an Asian twist on the baked rice.
This would score.
Just as a personal opinion,
I'd rather have a half portion more of the soft shell crab and skip the crab sticks altogether.
It made for a fairly weird combination.

And if the waiting could get any longer...

This was a Double Sensation.

And oodles of cheese.
In all its glory.

This Christmas, Pizza Hut brings you double the joy with Double Sensation Pizza.
The new Double Sensation Pizza comes with an inner crust stuffed with cheesy chicken sausage with smoked chicken and succhini on pepper alfredo sauce in the inner ring and an outer crust stuffed with 3-flavour cheese topped with turkey ham, mushrooms and capsicums on salsa sauce on the outer ring.
Yes there's all of that in just one amazing pizza creation.
That's a mouthful of joy in every bite.
I'd even fight with you for the crust!

Roasted chicken leg with garlic cheese sauce
A generous portion of chicken.
With vegetables that were too overboiled.

And to round it all off,
a platter of sweet delights. :)

I was all stuffed by the end of the night.
And I left with a thoughtful note and bag of love in the form of a goodie bag and a voucher for our hands-on attempt at the pizza assembly competition. :)

Treats like this should definitely be shared.

Yummy Viet @ Smith Street

The choices are limitless.
But extensive menus aren't usually good news for diners.

'

Whe you're spoilt for choice even at the drinks menu?

Cha Gio.
I like my Viet rolls... FRIED.
Crisp exterior and juicy stuffings within.
Dip into spicy sweet sour sauce for the perfect final touch.
Now we were terribly hungry!

Mix fruit tea.
There couldn't be a worse sounding name.
It sounded like fruit cocktail.
But of course this was herbal tea which O.D.ed on sugar syrup.
White fungus, red dates, barley, lotus root, dried longan and I have no other clue what else was within.
But this was by far better than plum or passion juice.

Three prawns, perfect for the three girls :)
In a word?
Refreshing.
Juicy sacs of the pomelo, delightfully crunchy onion slices, carrot, cucumber and diced chicken meat.
All tossed together in an addictively tangy dressing.

Beef balls and tender beef slices.
Where was my extensive raw slivers of beansprout? :(
The soup was savoury.
But tasted more of seasoning than anything else.
And no it wasn't quite the pho I was eagerly looking forward to.
This was thin in width but thicker than I expected.

Dinner came up to about $15 per pax for the three of us plus drinks.
It wasn't expensive but the food wasn't the taste of Vietnam I was looking for either.

Any recommendations for Viet cuisine?
Much appreciated :)

Shami Banana Leaf Delights of Northpoint fame? :)

A car, a driver and four hungry passengers.
Well, five hungry people.

Look at those long basmati rice grains.
Beautiful individual pieces, cooked till their maximum length.
Masala chicken.
Choice of chicken part.
I had a drumstick.
But please, try their chicken breast.
It's not tough and it's a generous serving of meat. ;)
A side of eggplant.
And chicken curry gravy of the watery variety.
The vegetable option is flexible.
I'd recommend their beansprouts.
Silvers of crunchy beansprouts, green chilli and shredded carrots.
Chomp.
$6.50.
Substantial.
And very filling.

Culture vulture.
It was finger licking good.
Couldn't you tell? :)

rained in.

Making macarons.
Mmm. ohmyyum.

Seafood flat rice noodles.
Wok hei but made fragrant only with the help of soy sauce.

Prawn paste chicken.
Oily.
But the batter is exquisite.
Crunch worthy.
Even till the end of dinner.
Which actually wasn't all that long. :)

A large serving of fried rice.
With the prawn bits?
I expected whole prawns at least.
In an opeh leaf to seal in the fragrance.

Dinner would've been a first with you.

What's at The Central?

put five hungry people together on a sunday night and what do you get?
a massive bill hey!

any guesses?

quaint. :)

we had a salad for starters and we devoured it like a pack of hungry wolves once it arrived.
crisp lettuce, chopped olives, momotaro tomatoes, a small scoop of tuna flakes topped with a slice of lemon.
simple.
and cost too much.
I'd rather have my salads at The Vault.

escargots.
in garlic butter.
lit ablaze for just a moment.
was that sandy base solid fuel?

$9.50 for six.
A dollar odd for a pop.
The satisfaction just wasn't enough.

Spanish paella.
This was enough to share for two or three small eaters.
The ingredients were substantial.
Although I wish all the seafood was not that dry.

Italian burger.
Original demi glaze sauce.
Oozes juice when you cut into it.
Every bite was full on meat flavour.
This would be perfect on a hot plate with a baked potato.
No complaints on the mash though.
Yum.

Seafood cream spaghetti.
Salmon, squid rings and mushrooms.
Generous serving of everything in its namesake.
I'm a happy camper.
*slurps

This tonkatsu set had the makings of a good value set.
Free flow rice, salad and seconds on the miso.
Except.
The tonkatsu cutlet was nothing compared to Tampopo and Tonkichi.
The breaded batter was crisp.
But the meat was tough and unyielding to a cut by a spoon.
Still,
we had seconds on this.
What did I say about 5 hungry people?

And when I thought that was it...

Curry burger.
Same awesome patty.
This time on a hotplate!
But smothered to death with a pungent curry sauce and topped with cheese
and lots of cherry pink pickles.

I needed rice with this because it was a tad too salty.

And if you think that was all for dinner...

What's dinner without desserts?

Banana caramel pie topped with a generous squeeze of whipped cream and a couple of walnuts.
We had two of these and very fairly devoured.
Thick slices of banana covered with a gelatinous mixture.
There was just the merest hint of caramel.
But a delightful treat anyhow.

Warm brownie topped with ice cream.
You couldn't go wrong with a rich chocolate base and a cool sweet vanilla topping.
If this was vanilla ice cream of a higher quality,
I'd pick this over the caramel banana tart any day.

So the bill?
Came up to $184.70 for the 5 of us.
The company was good.
Food was good on the overall.
Some hits and misses.
But still, I'd be up for dinner with these people again anytime :)

Thanks for having me hey.
My virgin experience at Ma Maison.
Finally.
Oiishi!

Makan Gathering @ High Society Mansion (Pacific Plaza)

It's been a rough week for me.
I definitely was not feeling the least bit Ms Congeniality.
But I guess it was time to take a break.
To see my friends.
And have a good mEAT-up session.
Thanks to MissTamChiak for accomodating three of us at such short notice. :)

For just $35 nett.

Minstrone soup.

Pretty interiors on the second level of High Society Mansion at Pacific Plaza.

We didn't take lamb, so between fish and pasta,
we settled happily on haddock.
Only to be sorely disappointed by the size and taste of thin dried flaky fish with encased in a salty batter.

Whip out the flash already.
It was fun focusing all our cameras on the pork knuckle sharing dish. :)
That also meant,
*slaps hand away.
everyone just had to wait for the photo madness to be over before eating.

Crabmeat ceasar salad.
The seafood taste was too strong to be enjoyed.
And serving us the heart of the lettuce stalk?
Dear Chef,
It was an oversight right?
I'd like to think.

Yay brussel sprouts.
And mash and gravy.
But the cajun chicken tasted dry and tough.
And where's my cajun spices anyway?

Salted prawns.
It seems.
I took a scallop instead.
Juicy but not tenderly so.
Pasta tasted reminiscent of mee siam more than laksa.

Duck confit.
The carrot puree was key for our table's discussion.
My grip was in the skin though.
Where's the crisp? :(
And duck that tasted like KFC's originals.
So says my dining companions.

Oxtail stew.
Oh I totally mopped this one up with the bread. :)
Yummy delish!

And I scream, you scream, the girls all scream for dessert!
Cupcakes. Topped with cream.
Lots of cream.
And if it wasn't chantilly cream, I'd not want to pile on the fats for this.
These cupcakes were unique with that dollop of cream with various tastes and addition of nuts.
These things should come with placards.
Or maybe not.
We had our fairshare tasting and guessing.

Noisette cake slice.
Aside from tasting frozen, this was decadent.
The macarons were an ultimate sweet treat to end off the night.

It wasn't the food but the company.
I had awesome table mates.
And we even had goodiebags to bring home.
Hello 1kg of Huiji honey, kaya and coffee.
I had a good Saturday night out.

Thanks @misstamchiak and @dashtaz.
To more makan gatherings! :)
