joe & dough

Nothing like a coffee date for a Sunday break.

Flat white ($5.30)
It was decent.
But not for a pick-me-up.
It could've really used a stronger shot of coffee.

Teriyaki Chicken ($7.80)
The chicken chunks were well marinated in teriyaki sauce, juicy and tender to the bite.
The zucchini was fresh with a crunch that took away the little greasiness of chicken fat.
And the pineapple chunks were a surprise addition,
lending a natural sweetness to this sandwich.

Bacon Mushroom Melt ($8)
This was a bun with slight sweetness.
Which was a perfect contrast to its savoury fillings.
The bacon wasn't fatty nor fried to a crisp.
Of course. The portobellos.
The earthy flavours nicely balanced the strong flavours of bacon and mozza melts.
I would be biased in my love of mushroom to say that this was my preferred choice.

But otherwise, speaking on an entirely impartial stomach,
there's an equal chance of my second order for both sandwiches.

Happy campers :)

cafe 211 @ holland village shopping centre

so when's the last time

you had yourself a bowl of plain kelloggs with milk and sugar? :)

on a lazy sunday,
one of the boys made a reservation at cafe 211 in holland v.
it's been a while.

they have an outdoor seating area that's perfect for sunday brunch.
but my tandoori chicken with raita was dry.
too dry.
i had to ask for sour cream to make it edible.

after that ordeal.
i definitely needed a tiramisu pick me up.
light.
and just that perfect bit of alcohol for me. :)

while the ice cream was lacking,
everything else was awesome.
first time i've had apple crumble with crumble bits and roughly chopped walnuts.
be prepared to wait though.
20 minutes it states.
freshly baked!

and nothing says satisfaction like that.

P.S. Love

The Sandwich Set with Turkey on Ciabatta Bread and Mushroom Soup.
Very woody and earthy mushroom taste. Light on the stomach with no addition of cream. Perhaps there was the addition of a roux to thicken the soup?

Turkey ham with cranberry sauce that was not at all tart! Oh the fear of all things sour *scrunches up face.
Tomatoes, lettuce and never forget the slice of cheese to bring everything together between the halves of a lovely toasted ciabatta. :)

Simple. Carrot cake with a cream cheese topping. Moist. Albeit a little too moist. Wasn't chock full of ingredients as I would have liked. Sweet enough for a post tea satisfaction. :)

And the loveliest flowers for a birthday gift. Thank you for the sweet thoughts and the treat for tea.

Love,
